How would that work? How do you envision that?

Great Idea - I stumbled upon http://www.quirky.com/learn today. Very cool model for rapidly bringing "products" to market and rewarding those involved - I'm going to give it a try. Perhaps SlowHunch can have a tie in somehow? Is there an Adjacent Possible at hand here?

Interesting! They "take it to market" somehow?

Ok. Still a very loose idea but here goes. it would have to involve some form of data analysis and scrutinising of each "opinion" from the community. Each time someone provides some experiential based advice or design input about the item being designed, it would be assessed (maybe by everyone else involved in the open source forum) for its added value. the product goes through different phases of evolution, somehow morphing as each opinion input from the community has an influence on the unit. a truly global design solution. i thought of this as more useful for theory development or assessment of something based on certain benchmarks rather than products, a way to use all the global knowledge available from the wider community who are interested in the topic that a single person would never be able to access. It would need a fairly powerful software solution to repackage all opinions and represent them as an adjustment of net performance based on certain benchmarks..........like i said, still a very loose idea. but i'm working on it.

Okay, lemme see if I understand: 1.) Scrutinizing of each opinion from the community (would this be the community as a whole or individual members?) 2.) Each added "hunch"would be assessed 3.) Product (what type of product?) would go through various iterations - morphs (I like that word, by the way) based on community input Explain what you mean by "represent them as an adjustment of net performance..." Let's keep expanding on this.

OK- I have tried a different media tool to use for communication. http://goview.com/?id=2d555a9b-1fb0-4871-9e51-3ecb866b2599 You should be able to click on this and it may download and launch the goview app on your system ( the same folks that do gotomeeting) and you should be able to play the recording I just made. If you want to respond in kind just launch you own goview session, start the original video, stop it where you want to add a comment, explain you point and finish the recording. Veview, edit, & post. Let's see if this works!

I really like GoView. I'm still digesting the video.

I like GoView. good idea for getting a message across. Could be included in the online design tool. To answer some questions (or at least give a further opinion update, an upinion!). scrutinizing opinions - given that this idea was based on a wiki type open source web tool for more specialised communities with specific professional interests, then there may need to be some voting mechanism or central adjudicator who decides what is or isnt incorporated. probably voting is the most "communal decision". the idea of a product morphing is based on each input affecting the situation. Again, remember I had based this hunch on something that could leverage off the vast knowledge available online globally to develop a theory or predict a future scenario based on basic decisions. i.e. the central design team post an design idea, global collaborators provide guidance and advice, this is absorbed into the design or theory and the revised design is presented back to the group for further development. or a powerful statistical and decision making tool is assessing each input and generates a change in the theory based on the validity of the proposal. This tool or design forum would be specialised. i.e. architects designing schools all over the world providing expertise. so you log in and comment or amend a design currently live in the "online studio" or engineers who all design mobile phones.

@OOBer. Here's what I took away from your video: 1.) Initial evaluation (voting, commenting, etc.) - this is the "community curation" phase in Quirky. Sort of what we're doing now. 2.) Once the hunch has reached "critical mass" and is worthy of further review, it can be "offloaded" or dumped into another bucket - maybe this could be called an "action" phase. Or something like that. This would probably depend on the hunch owner: "Okay, I think this hunch is ready for action". This is a step we lack. Using SlowHunch.com as an example, when a hunch reaches a certain level, it could then become a feature to add to SlowHunch.com I agree with @pauldosullivan, too: the final "design" or "feature" could be fed back into the community before its implemented. This would be easy: just create a new hunch. I'm going to post a new hunch: A "profile page" feature for SlowHunch.com. Once that hunch has reached a certain "level" (don't know what this would be), it then goes to the "action phase" and becomes a "feature" in the software. At any time this feature could be brought up as a hunch and improved. So that would provide continuous improvement. (I need to make this text box taller again!)

now, to allow the feature continuously morph and be subjected to live "upinions or opdates" (opinion updates) ideally it would be updated daily based on new hunches coming in from the design community. this then allows the designers to see how the idea is actually developing before there eyes and see how the "product" is performing. i think we need to setup the "profile page" for one of the hunches already here and allow our hunch develop that hunch based on community design....! problem is writing the new software every few days will be time consuming......

I like the concept of the rapid prototyping evolution. Pauldo's point of resource management is a good one though - no one can be everything to everybody. Someone has to choose? Maybe not? - I'll add my other comments to the new Profile page hunch.
